The Miseducation of Hip-Hop Discrimination in Education, English Comp II Week 4 Blog

In this article it explains how far we have come and how things have changed.  I think everyone has the right to dress as they choose.  Unfortunately, society will not judge you accordingly.  For instance if you were the owner of a bank and someone came in to borrow money to buy a house what answer would you give them if they came dressed that way?  Would you take them as a responsible and serious person?  You might not but I probably wouldn’t either.  They way we portray ourselves should be accordingly, there is a time and a place for certain things and they way we look is very important.  He goes on to explain the difference between today’s students and their parents, and teachers treating all the students as trouble makers. The way they dress the same just because they represent a type does not make them bad students.  The way teachers see rap music is as it being vulgar and not all of it is necessarily negative in its message some is positive.   The pressure of being an individual and not follow in the footsteps of the rappers as that might just be a persona and not the reality of who they really are.

The Bias of Language, The Bias of Pictures Blog 3

Postman and Powers argue that the news does not give you the audience the entire story every time. If they were to do that they would have to go into too much explanation and detail, let’s face it time is money. Postman and Powers needed to explain to you the difference between language, stationary pictures and moving pictures so you would understand how they each affect you and the way TV stations forward information out on the current things happening. They wanted to paint a clear picture that information is easily interpreted in an incorrect manner and then forwarded to viewers through news, tabloids, or newspapers.  That’s why it is so important to get as much information out as reasonably possible in the allotted time frame. The authors claim that television news shows distort the truth by altering or manufacturing and that television viewers are defenseless even if a recreation is properly labeled.

Enlish Comp II-Blog 2

The genders being represented is a boy and his parents. He has an imaginary super force where he can make things happen like magic. His parents encourage him by playing along with him. The interaction of him with his parents is a loving and playful one. The darth Vader persona has always been a popular icon. Probably introduced to him by his parents. Just before his dad arrives he seems confused he cant understand why his powers are not working and when the dad arrives he is excited but not to see him but to see the car because it responds to his super force commands.

English Composition Blog 1

In this Video young teenage girls and boys are represented having a good time together.  They start off with challenging each other to a bowling game and continue trying to impress each other with a little flirting and dancing.  Being in the bowling alley shows that they are wholesome kids hanging out with their friends and having fun.  Rather than hanging out in the streets where it can lead to bad actions it sends a positive message to teenagers.  The merging of different styles of music is a great one, the misconception that rap only has a negative influence.  It brings a positive message to teenagers that just because a rap song doesn't have bad language or is degrading makes it a bad song.  This video reminds us of young innocent love and how exciting it can be to have a cute popular kid flirt with you and do things to get your attention and win your heart.
